Airfares from Midwest to Las Vegas › Las Vegas

(TGA) - I've been watching airfares from Illinois to Las Vegas - various dates in February, March, and April.
Has anyone flying out of Illinois (Central IL, St. Louis or Chicago) found a great airfare they just couldn't pass up?
Allegiant out of Central IL has $109 each way and is about the best deal right now. It is a little over $250 round trip, no reserved seats, no priority boarding, and only carry on bags. Add another $40 per person for checking 1 bag.
Southwest out of Midway or St. Louis is around $165 each way. So $371 round trip.
We got spoiled last May flying Southwest out of Midway (Saturday to Saturday) for $198 roundtrip. So I keep hoping for a lower rate (don't we all?) then what I see now.

Don't forget it is $40 per person, per bag, each way for allegiant. I think that is a huge ripoff. We are going out of Omaha for $157 each way.. but 2 bags fly free.

Would you consider flying out of Milwaukee? I booked my trip with Southwest for 200 a person

I just replied on a couple other posts the last couple of days that flights from KC are not reasonable at the moment...I'll just watch and wait :(

We live in Central Illinois. A little over 2 hours from Midway and about 3 hours from St. Louis. If we lived in Northern Illinois, we would consider Milwaukee.
Allegiant flies out of a town about 50 minutes from our home and that is what we usually fly. It's the only direct flight from the small airports near us. With 1 bag each, we would be looking at close to $300 per person, roundtrip
AirTran flies out of a town that is about 25 minutes from our home but it has a layover in Atlanta. The lowest airfare was $114 one way for AirTran. That doesn't include bags either.

I've been watching and trying to be patient while waiting Topekaducky!
We don't have a specific date in mind to go but husband has to put in 30 days notice for his vacation time so we can't just jump on a last minute deal (darn work gets in the way of life sometimes!).
I know Supershe got a good deal with Southwest. Even the dings and specials for us with Southwest just aren't there right now.

Hi tutfam...actually Sheila's rate wasn't that good (I paid about $20 less each way last Oct than what she got), BUT compared to what's currently out there guess she got the best that they're offering :(
I never think about Air Tran so will do some more checking tonight...also know Frontier is an option for us, but the rates were same as SWA and have a change of plane. SWA is nonstop so always my first choice.

Booked 5 days ago with Southwest at $99 each way for a total with tax of $230. An hour after I booked the prices went back to $167 each way.
Going the end of April.

55Vegas - that's a good deal. I know alot of it is timing and that's how we got a good deal on SWA last spring.
TopekaDucky - I'm with you on the nonstop flight.

We paid $245 RT per person with USAir from Detroit with a connection and that is $45 higher then normal. We could have flew Spirit cheaper, but If I had a dog I wouldn't let them fly Spirit. The airlines do not seem to be budging anymore. Good thing we carry on and always have or we would be paying for bags!!
