(TGA) - Looking to get to Cyprus for the Ireland match 5th Sept. 2009. I will be on holidays in Alanya around this time and looking for info about boats,plane, visa & travelling from (Turkish) Cyprus to (Greek) Cyprus from airport/boat. Look forward to your advice! John

Hi John,
If you are in Alanya, why not jump on the ferry from Alanya to Girne, Northern Cyprus.(www.fergun.net).
To get into southern Cyprus, you will need to go through the checkpoint at Nicosia (about 40 mins by bus from Girne).
There are separate Greek and Turkish passport controls at this checkpoint.
When you get to the checkpoint, the Greek passport control will ask you to fill out basic passport details on a piece of paper; this will stamped in order to allow you access. When coming back through into turkish Cyprus, you represent the same piece of paper (to Turkish passport control) and it is stamped again. There is no stamping of the actual passport.
I do not know where the match is being played but given the size of the island, it should be fairly easy to get to once in southern Cyprus.

That sounds perfect. Didnt fancy driving up and down to Antalya airport to get to Cyprus. Don`t suppose you know the ferry crossing time and if there are daily crossings from Alanya harbour? Living out here permanently as from last May - love it and could never envisage going back to the UK.
Last year, ferry crossings were twice a week and departure was around midday - they quote around 3 hours crossing time but it is nearer 4. The crossing itself is relatively smooth but very boring - there is a salon on board from which they sell snacks and cold drinks (including beer!!!).
I will be going past the ferry office later so i will pop in and get days and times for you.

Crossings 2 times a week.
Alanya - Girne - Monday and Thursday @ 12.00 noon.
Girne - Alanya - Sunday and Wednesday @ 11.00am.
Return Price (Adult) 130ytl.
Last year we went on the Monday, shopped in Greek Cyprus on the Tuesday and came back on the Wednesday.
We spent 2 nights at Sammy's hotel in Girne (connected with Fergun).
