(TGA) - The good lady wife and I are planning to do an AR/OK road trip vacation this year in late September / early October. We have no planned itineray and would appreciate any comments or suggestions, both positive and negative if neccesary. We have been in to the US many times and know the form re driving, hotels etc., but would appreciate any advice and suggestions as, what to see and what to do. We thought ,maybe to fly in/out of Dallas and then drive north, completing around trip of ca. 1200 miles, Many thanks in advance !!

Coming from Dallas, a first stop might be "a place called Hope" - Pres Clinton's birthplace. Well if you wanted to skip that you could then head out to the only place you can search for (and keep) diamonds in the US - Crater of Diamonds State Park. If you didn't care for that you could head to Al Capone's old vacation spot, Hot Springs. Little Rock and the Clinton Presidential Center are definitely worth a visit. The you might head west toward your destination of Oklahoma through some wonderful parks - Petit Jean and Mt Magazine, with maybe a side trip north to catch the "Switzerland of the Ozarks" Eureka Springs. Here are some websites to get you started.

Here's an additional site that shouldn't be missed. You can find good lodging in Hope and combine the Clinton Birthplace with the short drive, about 11 miles, to Old Washington State Park.

I agree with Old CPA. If you like history, Old Washington is a neat place. Further up the interstate is great lodging and fishing at Lake DeGray State Park. www.degray.com/lodge
