Best East Coast Beaches

(TGA) - Hey all- my family tends to stick to the middle of the coast- Delaware, VA and NC beaches. We like the Outer Banks. Any other suggestions? We like to be able to drive- live in Virginia.

Thanks!

It's been awhile since I've been there, but Wildwood NJ has a large beach and a fun boardwalk. I usually go to Mexico or Punta Cana because the East Coast beaches can be expensive (I have found cheap All Inclusives for much less, especially with kids rates). If you have passports check out www.funjet.com (out of Dulles or DCA) or www.applevacation.com (out of Baltimore). They run specials, especially during the summer. The beaches are much nicer and there is still plenty to do.

I agree with the previous post. Wildwood - or anywhere else on the Jersey Shore like Ocean City or Cape May - is a great choice.

If you want lower prices and less crowds, go during the week or in June or September.

Here's a good Jersey Shore Web site: http://www.MyJerseyShore.com/

If you like the Outer Banks, chances are you like Kiawah and Seabrook Islands located outside Charleston, SC. A little far of a drive from VA (heck, I drive 18 hours to get to Seabrook!!) but for pure serenity, you can't beat either of these islands.

Only one 5 star hotel on KI, no hotels on Seabrook Island (you'll have to rent a vacation home). Both islands have tried to develop without disturbing nature (or at least limiting it).

The Jersey shores are a good choice I would just go early June to avoid all the summer crowds or even sometime in Sept.

If you really LIKE the OBX vibe you will NOT like Wildwood....I like them both but believe me, Wildwood is NOT Corolla, or Nags Head, or Salvo, etc.

If you enjoy boardwalks, amusements, a great wide and I mean WIDE beach (and one, unlike some of the others on the NJ shore you do not have to pay to be on) then you may enjoy Wildwood...BRING MONEY to feed the parking meters unless you are staying locally.

I like Cape May, NJ Ocean City may be better if you have children because they have a boardwalk. I agree it's better to go in June or Sept. I like Sept. I might add Cape May hotels are very expensive in Aug. & July.

Myrtle Beach - if you also like nightlife; Edisto Beach (near Charleston, SC) if you like nice beach, quiet areas..

Lovely secluded beach: Hammocks Beach. Swansboro NC
