(TGA) - We kinda want to stay on a more "traditional" highway (or at least one with a few towns along the way where we can stop and get coffee, or use "facilities") instead of too much of a backroad. Any suggestions about which route would be best - looked like going north route through Bridgton, Naples, etc. might meet that critera; but perhaps a southern route (but not TOO far south) would be better. Sorry for being wordy ...
Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you consider too "backroady".
The most direct route (per Mapquest and I agree)is to take Rte 5 from Fryeburg all the way to Saco/Biddeford area. This route is not hard to navigate and travels through some lovely small towns (Cornish, Limerick).
The "northern" route through Bridgton/Naples is more heavily traveled and does have an advantage of more "stopping potential" to walk around the shops in Bridgton or along the lakefront (Sebago). It will add 20-30 minutes of driving time (or more if you come into Portland during evening commute hours).

Thank you very much - really appreciate it. It's still hard to get used to how little distance there is between states, but that's a good thing! I can't wait to see all the neat small towns that I'm sure will be like picture postcards.
Thanks again.
