I would say Mid March through May or Sept through mid Nov the weather can fool you but the odds are best for nice mid range temps, perfect for walking. Jazz festival is in September, Music festival March/April movie festival is in the fall.

Spring, for sure. That's when the city is at it's best. The flowers are in bloom. The temperature is nice. I went in January once and it was freeeezing! Omg. Plus a lot of places get closed in the winter months to get renovated. So it's like a ghost town.

The bigger question is, when do you consider it spring? Up here in the frozen North, we don't really have "spring" until the end of May. It's 40's and 50's from April into May. We'll be coming down the second week in April, will you have flowers then? (hey, stop laughing!! We have 20 inches of snow on the ground right now.) I'm hoping for at least the mid 60's then, will you weather be similar to Hilton Head or will it be a lot cooler on the island?

Like most places the start and end of spring is somewhat variable. But usually spring runs from around mid March to mid May. The azealas usually start blooming in mid March but may be somewhat delayed or lessened as this winter has been colder than usual. In mid April the temps are usually in the mid 70's with lows in the 50's. It's possibly the best time of the year to be there.
