Can an american end this debate for me › Las Vegas

(TGA) - In Australia , you go to a restaurant and it is noramly entree then main followed by desert.
At the MGM they have a Prima card and it is offering 2 for 1 entrees at their restaurants , but is an entree in America a main meal or is it an appertiser ?
---- Reply -----
In the US the entree is the main course. In France, the entree comes before the main course, what we call an appetizer.
---- Reply -----
In America we eat dessert, not desert. ;)
Strange that we use a French word but give it a different meaning than in France.
---- Reply -----
The literal translation of entrée is "to enter" or "the act of entering". In France it would always refer to an appetizer or alternatively a small dish served after the appetizer but before the main course of a meal. Quite how it shifted to its current US meaning is one of life's little mysteries..... :-)

Us Americans are strange we also have salads first and not last as in Europe.
In order usually we usually serve
Appetizers
Soup
Salad
Entree or main course
Dessert or sometimes cheese
---- Reply -----
just hit a buffet, that way you can eat dessert first and crablegs last!!!!

It's not part of your original question, but I would like to add that many from Europe find our sertving sizes quite generous, so be aware that it is not frowned upon here ( as it might be in some countries) not to order every course- or , as we often do , to each order a main and split either an appetizer, a dessert or both. Some of us even order no main at all and make our meal of one or two appetizers.

But see, when you buy a taco, it covers everything. So you could say you're eating a 5 course meal for 89 cents, just cut the taco into five pieces.
---- Reply -----
It's also quite acceptable to share an appetizer, each order an entree and share a dessert.
---- Reply -----
Great tip about the tacos hahahahahaha
---- Reply -----
Be careful with the splitting. Some restaurant don't allow it, particularly if its a special. The menu usually indicates when splitting is not allowed.
