Can you put a car on the train? › Central Poland › Warsaw

(TGA) - Destination Expert

Hi, we're planning a trip through eastern Europe next year and the plan was to hire a car in Czech Republic and do a circuit of the south of Czech Republic, then into Poland to Krakow and eventually back into Czech Republic. I was thinking of pressing on to Warsaw from Krakow but now I read that the roads are poor and dangerous and the train is recommended. Since we can't leave the car in Krakow, can we put it on the train and take it off in Warsaw? Thanks.

if only! You'll have to suffer the terrible roads and bad drivers like the rest of us!

It's not so bad a drive between Krakow and Warsaw though - there is quite a bit of new motorway and if you take it easy you'll be fine. I'd recommend you spend your time exploring the south of Poland though, it's much more scenic and interesting than Warsaw.

Thanks for this :-)

why not just find secure parking for the car in krakow....and hop on the train or plane....i vote for plane as its not very expensive to fly intra poland...and the train trip to warsaw is almost 4 hours now due to some repairs....do not miss warsaw....the historical areas are unique and beautiful.....fantastic parks, palaces, churches and old towns.....i do a traditional night time walk about the old town before i leave....with the chimes going off in all, still gives me goosebumps....the perfect way to end my stay in poland

4 hours is a bit of an exaggeration, Casey. Checking the timetable for tomorrow as an example, I find that all the EX and IC trains are covering the distance in 2 hr. 55 min. By the time you get to the airport, go through security, await your flight, actually fly, then get back to the city at the other end--I don't think it's going to be less than 3 hours!

Thank you all for your help. I hope other travellers might find this information useful. As it is we have been reworking our schedule and now won't unfortunately have time to visit Warsaw. Maybe next time :-)
