Fly into Split and either spend time in Split or in nearby Trogir. When are you going?

Define "expensive." Food? Lodging? Airfare?
I just returned from a long trip to Croatia including Dubrovnik. Yes, Dubrovnik may have been the most expensive city on the itinerary, but it was far from unaffordable. I guess it depends on what kind of weekend you hope to have. I have no doubt the average restaurant bill is higher here than anywhere else in Croatia, since there are so many nice restaurants in the old city of Dubrovnik, but you can still find affordable restaurants.
If your goal is to get away for some sun and fun, maybe Split or Trogir would cost less. That doesn't mean Dubrovnik is unaffordable, either.

Thanks for the reply, how does Dubrovnik compare with Britain for prices?, its not much of an issue, it'll be fine as its not hugely expensive.
Split & Togir sound good to, any info on them?

I do believe that Dubrovnik will be more expensive than other places in Croatia, but I also believe that you can keep prices down by doing such things as going to the market to buy food instead of going to expensive restaurants all the time. Plus I think one should be able to experience Dubrovnik. To me its just such an enchanting place and makes me want to go back there! Split is a bigger city and though very nice, it just doesn't have that smaller town feel. Trogir is very close to Split and has the smaller town feel.
