(TGA) - I am planning a trip on my own to the Benelux around Christmas time and am slightly pressed for time when visiting Luxembourg and Brussels. Since hostels are cheaper in Brussels, I was thinking of commuting to Luxembourg in the morning and coming back in the evening. Does anyone know how long the train ride is? I've heard 3 hours but am not sure. Any other suggestions? And is it worth going to Luxembourg just for a day? Thanks!

Hi there,
See www.b-rail.be for times etc. Indeed about 3 hours one way.
Luxemburg is more a city to add to your BTDT list than really special, but not bad either. A few hours is not really doing it justice; a bit unlike Brussels which is really not that interesting for tourists except for the Grand Market. Brugge and Gent are the best Belgian towns to visit, much more atmosphere...

I wouldn't bother taking the trip to Luxembourg. Your day is far better spend in f.i. Gent and/or Leuven.

I agree. I love the country of Luxembourg as a place for hiking and camping. But I wouldn't choose the city of Luxembourg for a daytrip. If I was pressed for time I would choose Brugge and/or Gent.

Brugge is wonderful. To be so close and not see it.
Check www.flickr.com type Brugge in the search feature

Indeed, forget about Luxemburg, and spent not more than a day in Brussels. Go to places like Amsterdam, Brugge and Paris instead.
