(TGA) - Travel - I have seen advertisements for Family History Tours in Slovakia. I would like to visit Zariecie and Mestecko to see where my grandparents were raised as part of a 10-day trip to Slovakia. Can anyone provide opinions of these types of Family History Tours? or a better way to visit my grandparents home villages.
Thanks in advance!

Zariecie and Mestecko are located in nice valley between White Carpathians and Javorniky hills. It is also close to one of the border crosses to Czech Republic. In the area is a lot to see - town Trencin with mighty castle, Cicmany village with the well preserved wooden architecture, romantic castle in Bojnice etc.
I guess the best way to visit would be to rent a car. It would be also good to have a guide who can help with language and contact with locals.
If you are more adventurous, you can reach these places with means of the local transportation. Zariecie is 10 km far from main railway. You can take a train from Bratislava to Puchov (cca 2 hrs.) and from Puchov you have a lot of busses to Zariecie or Mestecko (11 km, see www.cp.sk)

As one of the highlights of the region, I would like to add one place from Czech side of border - open air museum in Roznov pod Radhostem.
Do you already have a plan of your 10-day trip? As mentioned above, many places can be reached by means of local transportation. But I guess, if you have deeper interest in country, especially family history, the local guides or local tour company would be the better choice.
Which company did you find? I found couple of links for family history tours:
