Finland national or traditional costumes › Tallinn

(TGA) - Are there any good places to rent or buy Finland national or traditional costumes? My wife would like wear them to take some photograph in Finland. Thanks!

They are very expensive to buy.

Hard to find info in English about renting, and most are far from Helsinki. Here's the contact info page (Finnish only) of a folk dance group near Helsinki that sometimes rents. I suggest you try emailing some of the people listed there. Good luck! http://www.vantaankansantanssijat.cjb.net/

It is a good idea to contact folk dance groups. Are you visiting Rovaniemi? If yes contact local folk dance group Rimpparemmi: http://www.rimpparemmi.fi/en/index.php . Site is in English with some costume hire information.

Thanks for your prompt replies! I will visiting Helsinki, Rovaniemi, and Saariselka, I will try to contact them and see if it's possible for renting one. If there's some studio for tourist to take photos with Finnish traditional costume will be great.

I have contacted Rimpparemmi and waiting their reply. Also, I contacted hotel staff and they cannot find any places can rent the costumes nearby, but they also told me some people don't like other people beside Sami to wear those costumes. If so, I prefer to respect the culture, I don't want make other people not happy just because we want wear the costumes for the photograph. Instead, we will find Sami people there with traditional costumes and take some pictures with them :)

That certainly won't be a problem. I appreciate your sensitivity.

That goes for Samí and it is totally understandable. How about Finnish national costumes or is it only Sami costumes you were interested in? There aren't as strict recommendations on wearing Finnish national costumes as there are on wearing Samis'. If you are interested see how other costumes look like: http://www.kaiku.com/finncostume.html . And here's an example on Rovaniemi's costume: kauppa.vuorelma.net/PublishedService…
