(TGA) - Hi again:-). Our South Dakota trip is shaping up quie nicely, thansk to all the great help I've gotten on this board.
Now, I'm looking to buy a guidebook to bring with when we go. Any suggestions? I already have the South Dakota free planner, but I'm looking for something with more detail. I would love to find something that would include the history of the places we plan to visit (mostly National parks and monuments, plus Custer State Park). A guide book that would have maps that would include area hiking trails would be great too:-). I'm a major planner, and like to read as much as possible about a place before I visit it.
Oh--on a related note--any recommendations for fiction books set in the Badlands or Black Hills region?
Thanks!

For fiction, Rapid City author Lori Armstrong has 4 mysteries set in the Black Hills:
Blood Ties, Hallowed Ground, Shallow Grave & Snowblind
Kent Meyers & Dan O'Brien are also Black Hills authors.

Hi Kren, Black HillsGuide again. For fiction you can also pick up a DVD copy of the HBO Deadwood Series (if you haven't already seen it) and Nyla Griffith (a friend of mine) published a fiction entitled "Lucky Strike" which is available on Amazon.
On the guide book, I'll try to stop in at one of the local gift shops with a descent selection of guide books, check them out for you, and get back to you in the next couple of days.
