Compared to a lot of Europe, Hungary is cheap. It's also a fascinating country IMHO.
I was first sent to Hungary in 2004 on a business trip before I retired. I've returned every year since. I know no Magyar at all, but a bit of research here on TA about public transport can easily cure that worry. It's very safe.
For anyone travelling alone (as I do). I've never encountered the full 'single supplement' .I admit that I don't know about all hotels in Hungary. In all honesty , I;ve been so pleased with a particular Hungarian chain that I follow them around. (They aren't carbon copies of each other - they are renovated and up-dated ones of the 'best.')
As an admiited Senior, I find my trips to Hungary to be the most eqasily affordavle and most comfortable of abty I've taken in the last 5 years.
