(TGA) - Can you please tell me if Australians need a visa to visit Italy
-------------- Reply --------------
If you have an Australian passport, you do not need to apply for a visa. When you arrive in Italy, your passport will be stamped and this allows you to be in Italy and any other of the Schengen Treaty countries for a maximum of 90 days in the next 180 days.
The Schengen Treaty abolished border controls between its member countries. Essentially, it is the EU excluding UK with the addition of Switzerland.
If you want to stay for more than 3 months in Europe, you must apply for a visa before leaving Australia. You must also apply for a visa if you intend to work in Europe.
