(TGA) - Was intending to enter Russia by train starting perhaps at Prague, then going thru Poland, avoiding Byelorussia, then crossing Russia on the way to Kazakhstan and Tashkent in Uzbekistan.

But visa app (US people may have more rigid requirements) assumes airport entry, and wants exact dates and place of entry. My visa service (Travisa) insists L.O.I. and Visa must match each other date and place. Also 30 days duration is impossible. True?

I don't see how I can know how long it will take to get to eastern Ukraine/ Russian border. Or the crossing point. Some, maybe most, of these trains run only once a week.

Is this kind of travel impossible in Russia? I have just posted in "air" forum about flying over-avoiding the problem. Ideas?

A Russian tourist visa is good for 30 days. I would write in your date of entry into Russia as the date you think you will arrive & cross over into the country. Remember, you can not enter until that date (not before). Then you will have 30 days to travel around before you would have to exit. On form where it ask's cities to/you will visit? Write in all major cities you may visit or pass through? I would list 3 or 4 maximum. Remember, you will have to register (have your visa stamped at any post office or hotel) with in the first 3 days of entering the country. Good luck, train travel in Russia is real neat. AIM.

Than you- Rostov is one place I am very likely to come thru. Do you know, is there thru international train from Kiev thru to Kazak, Uzbek?

I only dimly know the cities, certain ones are not important to me. Just want to get thru legal times, before passport expiry.

Diversion to Moscow to catch distance train is NOT my favorite solution!

oops- I now see there are two Rostovs apparently. One in the golden ring? and one "on the Don."

But it also seems now I may have to go to Moscow or suchlike to get into Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan?
