hi. (jo napot kivanok!)
i have been in hungary in the past. actually i studied in hungary, 1 year in debrecen university and two years in pecs medical school!so many memories!in those days i didn't have the mind to look to all the wonderful things these cities including budapest had to offer-just study and of course...nightlife!
so, after almost 20 years i desided to take a trip together with my wife to budapest and i'm thrilled!
i know or at least i cn remember few things about the city like the castle dinstrict with the national gallery, mathias church, fishermans bastion, opera house, gerbaud cafe, new york cafe, vaci utca and margitsziget island.
this time i want to experience more of the city that means more of the museums, parks, an opera performance as you can understand more mature things to see and do!
we will be staying in meridien hotel-in those times this hotel didn't exist- and we booked malev flight-in the past i remember the tupolef type of aircrafts-.we will be in budapest for 4 nights/5 days(we leave the 5th day at 23.55 in the evening so we have a full day then). i 'm waiting for your suggestions.
a small program that i have already in mind it goes like this:
day 1: visit buda area and gellert hill-apart from buda castle, the church and the fisherman bastion what else there is to do and see?
day 2: go to margitsziget island for a long walk -things to do there?
day 3: monument of the kings and visit the museum there.
day 4: vaci utca and the surroundings.
day 5:?(sunday).
of course we would love to go to an opera performance one evening or on sunday morning.-where can i found information about the program? please feel free to add anything interesting to do and see in our program!
ah...and one more thing! i remember a park in the city with a castle-palace like structure if i remember well where i always wanted to go but i never did-which is this place?(in pest side of the city).i 'm waiting your answears!koszonem.(my skills in hungarian language are...terrible!)

I'm sure you'll get a lot of answers from beter informed people than I.
However -
Day 1 sounds fine. (Be sure to visit the Museum of Budapest at the S end of the Castle. I found it much more interesting than the Museum of Hungarian Art that occupies 4/5's of the castle.)
Day 2? I've not explored Margits Island, so can't help.
Day 3. I think you mean Heroes Square? (Hosok Ter) Personally, I didn't find either of the museums there exceptional. I much prefer the Nemzeti (National Museum) at Kalvin ter.
Day 4. If the Great Market Hall is included in the surroundings.' It's a marvelous place IMHO. But- as it closes early on Saturday, I'd exchange this day with one of the earlier ones.
Day 5. (Sunday). A good day for just ambling about. Shops will be closed, but museums will be open.
I think that the park with the castle to which you refer is Vorosliget. It's close to Heroes Square. Others can tell you more.
A visit to Szent Istvan's cathedral near Deak ter would be well worth while. (Probably not on Sunday.)
Szent Gellert's hill is quite separate from the Castle district. (It's rhe one with the Freedom statue.) IMHO the views from the top are the best in Budapest, so it's well worth a visit. On the other hand, getting there from the castle district is likely to take an hr at least, depending on your mode of transport. (Foot, public transport, HOHO bus.)
Hope that helps a little.
When is your trip? Some things are more interesting at dfferent times of year.

I would guess that oddone is correct that you are thinking of the area just off Heroes Square in the City Park - the Vajdahunyad Castle, which is the Agriculture Museum. Built in a melange of styles for a major exposition in the (?) late 19th or early 20th Century, it has a small pond around it (being renovated) and in summer there are outdoor classical music concerts there...
