(TGA) - I'm interested in locating a hotel (3 star) , resort and/or B&B in southwest RI towards the border of CT for a week in late July 2010. I'd like something for a family of four with an outdoor pool (if possible), and a reasonable price. Would be flying into PVD and picking up a car at the airport. Primary travel area would included heading into New London and Groton, CT to look up our adopted daughter's old area where she was born, which is the reason I'm looking for accommodations in southwest RI and/or into CT relative to the New London/Groton area. I'd also like to check out the southern shores of RI as well. Traveling with a 17 and 14 y/o. If you're wondering why we're flying into PVD, airfares from Ohio to Hartford are far more expensive.

Taking all of your criteria into account, I would say the Holiday Inn in South Kingston, RI may fit the bill. You would be about 35 minutes from Newport and about 50 minutes to Groton/New London.
Rates in mid week in mid July look like around $150 nite. There is an outdoor pool and you would be fairly close to the beaches of Narragansett - about 15 minutes.
You could consider Newport and from there your drive to Groton/New London would be roughly an hour or a little more. You could also consider staying in the Mystic, CT area but if your kids like swimming and the beach, Rhode Island is a better choice and you can easily visit Mystic.
