(TGA) - We are planning to go to Colorado for a Dude Ranch experience in June. We are 4 adults and 5 children (7-12 years old). We all love to ride and have been riding in many countries and now it's time for America to show us a good cowboy experience :) The children have been riding for 3 years so the quality of the rides are important (they want to gallop from time to time, not just walk) we also would like to do an outdoor sleepover somewhere by horse. Can anyone recommend the perfect place? In order what I am looking for is:
1. Great riding scenery (not just flat ground, great views and I want mountain and forest riding)
2. Not too may people, more a real family experience
3. Great food and lodging
4. Other cool activities (mainly for the kids but fly fishing would be nice for us)
5. Price (this is not that important but June specials are always good:)
Thanks in advance for any advice!

It is a about a year old - but still very relevant.

I reread my posts and I would say the same thing again - I still agree with my ranch recommendations. Tumbling River might be a perfect match for you. I understand you want to make sure you receive current info - maybe someone from last summer will post advice for you. Good luck!

Thank you! I will look into Tumbling River right away...
I also looked at Latigo Ranch, Cherokee Park Ranch and Drowsy Water & Smith Fork Ranch but it so hard to know if it will be "nose to tail" riding which i know my kids will hate since they have been doing a lot of "free" riding...

There are so many places to visit in Colorado http://www.coloradoranch.com
Here's a few you might want to consider that have non nose to tail rides...

Here's a place that most likely won't be your cup of tea (no electricity, running water or bathrooms) but plenty of ranch!!! http://www.quartercircle.net/

Look at this recent post as well, particularly the post from Jane VanBerkum of Rainbow Trout Ranch:
and take a look at the Rainbow Trout Ranch website:

This place gets near perfect reviews on Trip Tip with glowing reports on the hosts, fishing, riding, children's programs, food and lodging:
The only downside noted is something I consider an advantage in some ways. It is further from Denver and more remote. I have not stayed at this ranch, but I sure would love to! I'm familiar with the area and can attest to the beauty and accuracy of the scenery pictured on their website.

Thank you so much, it really helps to narrow down my search. My kids are really exited to go to "the wild wild west". I will now email them to see if they are running any specials in June.
