(TGA) - Im attending a conference end of March to be held at the Austria center Vienna. There are only 4 hotels iun the vicinity (Arcotel Kaiserwasser, Park Inn UNO, NH Danube and Austria trend Donauzentrum). the rest of the hotels are in the inner city
My question is, is is better to stay near the cnvention center and then travel to the inner city for sight seeing and stuff or stay at the inner city hotels and just travel to the convention center.
Apparently, the convention brochure says the inner city should be only 10 min by subway, is this true. Becasue if it will be harder to travel to the convention ( I dont mind 10 min, but not 30) center, then it may be better to stay near?
If in the inner city, im thinking of Marriott... but any great suggestions ( bang for the buck)?
thank you

It is true that the convention center is very well connected to the city center by a 10 minute ride on underground U1. The U1 stations in the city center (1st district, pedestrian zone) are Schwedenplatz, Stephansplatz and Karlsplatz. If you want to stay in the center and minimize travel time, you should stay in walking distance of one of those stations which won't be difficult as there are many good hotels in that area. The Marriott is not in walking distance of a U1 station, but the connection can be easily made, adding maybe 10 minutes to the trip.
As to the choice of hotels, try TA's interactive map to locate the best-reviewed hotels near those underground-stations and then shop around for the best rates online.
I'd only stay near the convention center if the schedule there was extremely packed; there is little else to do there and the atmosphere is quite different if you stay in the center.

one other thing, any hotels in the inner city you can personally recommend?

Our visiting friends have been very content at those places near Stephansplatz station:
König von Ungarn:
I looked at the hotels near the stations you mentioned and actually liked Hotel konig von ungarn and kaiserin elisabeth:-)

I have no disagreement with nemorino's advice or the two hotels you're looking at. It's worth bearing in mind that the inner city (1st district/Innere Stadt) is quite compact. It only takes 25 minutes maximum to walk across from side to side meaning that almost any hotel would be no more than a 10 minute walk to the U1 stations mentioned. The journey time on the U1 to the Austria Centre stop is between 9 minutes (Karlsplatz) and 6 minutes (Schwedenplatz). So if you see any other hotel you fancy in the centre you may want to consider it. But I'd definitely stay there rather than in the vicinity of the conference centre itself.
