(TGA) - Travel - Which route IF to Jackson Hole is "least scary"? I'd like to avoid those 2-lane edge-of-cliff roads as much as possible. Thanks.

teton pass really isn't scarey at all...well, maybe when you get to the top, but the views. you can go around by Pine, but it takes alot longer.

Hi Pather,
From Jackson you can take Hwy 26/89 South towards Hoback Junction, and then down to Alpine. From Alpine turn right onto Hwy 26 West which will take you to Swan Valley and then right into Idaho Falls. This is the "least scary" of the two routes (the other choice being Hwy 22 from Jackson to Victor, ID and then Hwy 31 from Victor to Swan Valley).
Neither route is particularly scary - but Hwy 22 to Victor is one heck of a steep mountain. It's a put-your-car-in-low-gear-down-the-mountain sort of highway; but, as charley mentioned, the view from the top is gorgeous. You can easily burn out your brakes coming down into Jackson on this road if you don't use low gear.
Hwy 26/89 is not nearly as steep, and follows the river down a very pretty canyon. Pallisades reservoir is then on your left the whole way from Alpine to Swan Valley. It takes a little longer, but is a very pleasant drive.
Either way, be sure to stop at the Rainey Creek Store in Swan for a square ice cream cone if you're coming in summer.
Hope you enjoy your trip!

Oh - I just noticed you said I.F. to Jackson, not Jackson to Idaho Falls. Oh well, I'm sure you figured out to just reverse my directions. Sorry.
