NY Rangers › New York City

(TGA) - Hi all, I'm in NY for 5 days commencing Dec 13th and would like to take in a NY Rangers game at MSG. Would anyone be able to advise which would be the better game to attend out of...

1) NY Rangers vs NY Islanders

or

2) NY Rangers vs Atlanta Thrashers?

Is there a rivalry between the Rangers and the Islanders which would make this game more interesting? Will there be a bigger crowd at the Islanders game making it a better atmosphere?

Any advice would be greatly received.

Regards

Rangers and Islanders have a great rivalry. Fans continue with cheers and jeers against Islander players that are long since gone - just for tradition's sake. "Potvin sucks!" The Garden will be rocking. This is the game to see, no doubt.

Great, thanks for the quick reply.

Having just checked ticketmaster it would appear that quite a few others agree that this is the game to see...all tickets in section 400, 300, and 200 have sold out. The only way of getting tickets for these sections is to use the MSG ticket exchange to buy re-sale tickets. Has anyone ever used this facility? I'm assuming it works okay for UK residents?

As far as I know, you will struggle from the UK. I'm in Australia and tried to get tickets from the TicketExchange, but after a frustrating phone call to Ticketmaster, apparently only their 'normal' website (ie. normal retail sale of tickets) is available to international buyers. TicketExchange is for US residents only. While you can try to get around it, the problem is that they attempt to verify your address with your credit card number, and this function only works in the US.

I ended up using StubHub, where you can use international credit cards (as long as you use your billing address as your hotel or somewhere in the US). StubHub seems good, lots of guarantees and so forth. I bought E-Tickets so I already have them. Didn't seem toooo overpriced, as I ended up paying about $12 more per ticket than the face value, but with a sold out game, this seemed like a pretty good deal.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply Jacob. Once booked, does StubHub send your tickets to your hotel which you'll collect when you arrive? Or do they issue you with an eticket? And did you have to pre-arrange it with StubHub to accept your hotel address as your billing address?

Apologies for all the questions :)

Okay,

"Does StubHub send your tickets to your hotel which you'll collect when you arrive?"

You can get a variety of tickets from StubHub, it all depends on what people are selling on there at the time. I was lucky enough to find someone selling e-tickets which you can print from home, but I believe that the majority of these tickets are paper tickets and will need to be posted somewhere. I didn't really look into this, because I will be staying with relatives in New York and anything I need posted can be sent to them. It is probably worth a call to StubHub to work that one out.

"Did you have to pre-arrange it with StubHub to accept your hotel address as your billing address?"

No, basically I figured what they don't know won't hurt them, and if something goes wrong with charging the credit card at the wrong address, then I will get an error and no tickets. My bank statement shows that I have been billed for the tickets and I have the printed e-Tickets sitting next to me on my desk here. My actual billing address is in Australia, but I entered my Aunt's house on Long Island as the billing address and there weren't any problems.

I know that this probably all sounds a bit dodgy, but it worked for me and seemed to be the best option available, without having to lobby a member of my family for the use of their American credit card!

Hope this clears up your questions.

Hi, i am having the same problem as you buying tickets for the same derby game for when we are in New York in March.

Because Ticketmaster only had behind the net seats - and these were not recommended generally, I tried Ticket Exchange but the previous posting is correct, they are unable to verify UK credit cards on their system although I did not find this out until the process, I thought, was complete and required me to ring the US to find out!

I am now looking at E-bay, although I do feel a little uneasy about using sites that operate on a third party system, I am also unhappy where unless you can receive the tickets electronically I object to paying $30 -$40 to have them posted because Willcall is not available with third party tickets!

i am now going to contact concierge at our hotel, to see what they suggest. Ticketmaster suggested a system whereby the hotel credit card is used but I have no idea how this works or even if it exists..

Please, if you find out any more, post the information and I will do like wise!

Just to update you...i've emailed StubHub and they ensured me UK residents can purchase tickets. They replied with a list of ideas, of which neither worked (i.e. Enter post code with no spaces, enter only the first half of post code). They told me to email them back if the problem persists...which I have done. I'll let you know what they say.

Hi

I am also travelling on 13 dec for 5 nights, I was looking at tickets last night on keith prowse.com

Hi ec07. I checked that website but there's no details (i.e Section number, Row number, etc) on the actual tickets you get allocated which i found slightly weird. It looks like you pay a set fee of approx £52 and then find out where you're sat when the tickets arrive?

hi-again!!

Like you I have contacted Stub Hub. I was enquiring about purchasing some tickets from a seller who would be sending the tickets electronically and allowing me to pay by PayPal - more or less straight from my personal bank account. I asked if I would still have problems with the billing address not being in the US even though tickets were not being sent there and i was not using a credit card. Well, it seems even that would cause problems although I have written back explaining my confusion and hoping for an explaination!!!

Plenty on e-bay, and I will keep checking Ticketmaster. Don't know about Keith Prowse but am sure there may be similar problems there....
