(TGA) - In mid October, on our way back to New Jersey, we plan to drive from Bar Harbor through interior Maine, into New Hampshire. We only have one night/day to spend in New Hampshire before heading to New Jersey. We would appreciate any suggestions on scenic routes to take, places to visit, and a reasonable hotel to stay.

Stay in North Conway or Jackson and enjoy the White Mts. and drive the Kancamagus Hwy which is very scenic.

You may want to consider Peterborough/ Monadnock Region. NC is way out of the way to get back to NJ.

I agree with Cece. You have a very long drive from Bar Harbor through the interior of Maine. If you took 302 from Maine over to North Conway, there are many reasonable hotels there. The next day you could drive 302 through Bretton woods to Rt 93 and head south on the highway.
The other thought is to stay in Bretton Woods..several motels along the way..and of course, the Mt Washington Hotel , a beautiful hotel (may be fun to splurge on a night there) . The view of Mt Washington sitting in a rocking chair on the back porch of the hotel is spectacular.
