(TGA) - Since Google Maps is very poor on Iceland routing issues - can someone suggest a website to calculate distance and time between two locations in Iceland ?
thanks

I used www.map24.com. The downside is that this routeplanner only knows the relatively large cities. Any other points, you first have to mark on the map yourself. But it does calculate the distances in between any 2 points on the Icelandic roads :).

Take a look at http://en.ja.is/kort/#x=500000&y=500000&z=0

Just a small warning regarding the route planner part of ja.is: When I used it last year it seemd to have no completely clear distiction between ordinary roads and 4x4 tracks, so it would make some bad choices sometimes.
I used it a few times (not as a route planner as such, but just to calculate some driving distances), and found that sometimes it would select routes that were marked on the map and were theoretically the shortest distance, but part of the route I knew was off limit to ordinary cars and some parts I knew was tracks that I would hestitate to drive even with a 4x4.
It was no problem to me since I already knew what roads to drive and only wanted the distances, but I could imagine that it could misguide others who had no knowledge of the area.
It may however have improved since I last tried it, because I just now did a small test on one route where it failed last year and now it did not make any wild shortcuts, but kept strictly to the normal roads.
So maybe it has been updated with better road descriptions and selection logic.
Just always keep in mind that the route suggestion MIGHT not always be a sensible one. If you keep to the main roads you should be good anyway.
Other than that I completely agree that the ja.is maps are very good and very detailed.
