(TGA) - having recently retired, my wife & i have longed talked about doing a road trip from michigan to washington state. the time frame isn't critical, but we are also planning to take along our 2 dogs. is this practical? i'd like to get an escape hybrid to make the trip more interesting & enjoyable. anybody ever do a long-disrance road trip with doggies before? any do's & don'ts???? Thanks for any input regarding this matter, RC , the downriverite

Have not done it, but have thought about it.
How big are the dogs? Do they travel well? (One of mine can get car sick) How long are you planning for this?
Escape seems a bit small for two humans, two dogs and all the gear. A hybrid is not going to save you much on the highway - 31 mpg for a hybrid vs. 28 in the regular gas version.
You will probably need to have crates if you are staying in hotels and plan on leaving the dogs to explore where they will not be welcome. There goes more room gone in the vehicle.
Personally I don't think I would try it with anything smaller than a full size SUV or mini-van. Of course, my dogs are 60-70 pounds, so if yours are Yorkies you won't need as much space.

our dogs weigh 20lbs & 30lbs respectively. also thinking about using an overhead carrier.
