(TGA) - Guests traveling to Harrah's Cherokee eastbound from Gatlinburg,Tn be detoured due to a rockslide on the Tennessee/North Carolina border. Eastbound motorists traveling I-40 will now take I-81 North to Kingsport/Johnson City, then I-26 East to Asheville to get back to I-40.

If you were going to Harrahs from Gburg, why not just cross over the mountains through the park? In fact if leaving Gburg to head east, it is likely less time traveling through the park via US 441 to US 74 east than doing the route suggested. I have traveled from here (sylva) to Memphis and route 1 going through Gburg/PF/ Sevierville with all that traffic and congestion took me more time than taking US 74 to 40...
in my opinion if you are in Gburg wanting to head east, traveling through the park to US 74 where there is no congestion beats battling the PF traffic to the suggested route...

I think you are right on it Smoky Bob. That is the way I would go thru the park. Going to Johnson city is way out of the way to Harrahs. Of course this means where you are starting. If you are in Gatlinburg and wish to go to Cherokee then go 441 thru the park.
