You can't see Russia from Anchorage.

One can only see Russia from an isolated Alaskan island. When Palin said you can see Russia from Alaska it is indeed so; however, it's a remote, sparsely populated place:

There is a web cam view on this website. So yes, you can see Russia from Alaska, for what it is worth, but not from Anchorage!

Yes, you can also see Russia - Siberia from mainland USA/North America/Alaska by going to the village of Wales on a clear day.
From there you can see 7 miles to Fariway Rock (locally famous for weather predictions from the old Navy Weather Station, as in "visibility 7 miles"), then the Diomede Islands, Little Diomede (USA) and Big Diomede (Russian), separated by 3 miles of wild Bering Sea Waters and decades of Cold War, Behind the Diomede Islands you will see a few hills - those are the mountains of Siberia, some 50 miles away.
If you walk up part of King Mountain behind the village you will get a better view. If you go all the way to the top of the mountain you will see one of the remote radar domes for the US defense system at Tin City. Tourists are welcome in the friendly village, but not at the radar site.
Siberia must be 500 or 600 miles away from Anchorage and Wasilla, so the chances of catching a glimpse of Russia from there is rather small.

Oh, oh, yes! I was out there int he 1970's when there was two telephones in the village, one reserved for the health clinic. We quickly hit a spot of bad weather and it was about two weeks before we saw another airplane or I was able to call in to report progress on the job. I was walking home to the village one day after work, rubber from head to toe and head down to keep the horizontal rain from my face . . . and stopped on the beach, wondering, what is out of place? What CAN be out of place, all I see is sand! Aha! After three days of horizontal rain the leeward side of the sand ripples was still dry.
The rest of the time there was only better, and much better. But it still gave me a desire to avoid the Aleutians until 24 years later, when again on the job, I had to discover that beautiful corner of Alaska.
