Travel - My boyfriend and I are planning a short trip (4 nights) in early May to North Carolina from Northeastern PA. Since its a bit of a distance away, we wanted advice on where to go to get the most out of our trip. So far we have been looking at towns along the north coast (Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, etc) and were looking to do everything from relaxing and enjoying the beach and local (non chain) restaurants, to hiking and exploring nature. Were even considering possibly visiting multiple locations, ones that arent too far between, of course.
Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated. :-]

The Outer Banks are a great destination. Nags Head/KDH is the most developed area, so it probably makes sense to stay there for all the local offerings. Also, it's rather centrally located so you can easily do day trips from there. The ride down to Ocracoke is a nice way to spend a day. You can take a leisurely trip, visit the Bodie Island and Hatteras lighthouses, hike around in the Pea Island nature preserve, and check out the villages of Rodanthe, Salvo, and Hatteras along the way. Catch the ferry over to Ocracoke, hang out and have lunch, then work your way back up. You can easily do this in one day (a long day), but it would also be nice to spend the night on Ocracoke so you can take more time to explore.
Manteo/Roanoke Island is also a good destination--it's right across the bridge from Nags Head, and there are neat shops, the Fort Raleigh historic site, and Festival Park, among other attractions.
And here's a tip--for some of the freshest seafood around, visit the Fisherman's Wharf restaurant in Wanchese (at the southern tip of Roanoke Island). It's located right by the seafood docks, so it doesn't get any fresher than that!
If you have more questions, just ask!

The month of May is a great time to go to the Outer Banks. It can be cool, especially if a breeze is blowing off the ocean, but if you don't want crowds this is a great time.
Nags Head and Kitty Hawk has a lot to do within a short distance.
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore is great and the Pea Island National Refuge is also a great nature area.
The lighthouses are fun to check out.
Here is a web site that may have some information that may be helpful.

Hope you have a great time. I'm actually going to be there the first week-end to do some fishing.
