(TGA) - Hi, I plan to travel to Slovakia in May, flying in to Bratislavia and then taking a train to one or two towns. I like quaint, historic towns. any suggestions?

Slovak towns are very small for more then one day visit. The train is not best for visit the nicest sight sees, better should be bus or rented car. The round trip is best - 2 days in Bratislava with Devin and maybe Gabcikovo trip by boat, next to Trencin -castle, then to Prievidza - Bojnice castle in one day, then to Zilina - Terchova-Vratna with cabin lift to Chleb and very nice rocky walley, two castles in Strecno, day 5,6 -Poprad with hight Tatras area and Aquacity Poprad, Levoca and Spissky hrad are must see, last day back to Bratislava . There are more nice places - caves, castles, historic cityes, but one week is realy short time - look for Krasna Horka, Betliar, Kosice, Demanovske jaskyne, Oravsky hrad, Kezmarok, Banska Stiavnica, Vlkolinec and make your own ittenary, just put these names to google and you will see

Alternative - cut down on the time in Bratislava as the real Slovakia is out east - drive to Banská Štiavnica, then Banská Bystrica, Donovaly, Vlkolínec up through Ružomberok and then straight down towards Poprad. That should be enough for one long day.
From Poprad you should get the little train that goes along the Tatra foothills and maybe go to Štrbské pleso, or get a cable car up to Lomnický štit www.vysoketatry.com/ciele/lstit/en.html but there are huge amounts of options around there http://www.vysoketatry.com/en.html
You should do a trip also to Stará Ľubovňa, Bardějov, Košice (the last two also must-sees), maybe stay in Kośice, then back past Špišský hrad, Levoča and then back to Bratislava, maybe stopping somewhere on the way.
Of course that way is missing out a lot as well (there are many must-sees mentioned above as well) - there is so much to see, and a week is just not long enough!
