I like Grahams list
slight correction ..Fontanella Tea rooms for Choclate Cake on Mdina Bastions
Chrystal Bar , next to the roman villa for Pastizzi .
Depends a lot on what is it that you are looking for ??
Graham
In Mgarr , I go to the Football club for the Rabbit Stew ...maybe better than Il - Barri ..even if he is an old friend of mine .
There are a couple of good restaurants in the Radisson and the Hilton ..not necessarily Maltese food ..like The Blue Elephant , or the ones at the Fortina .
Variety is the spice of life !!

There is Paparazzi in Spinola Bay, St Julians and the ever popular The Avenue in Paceville also in St Julians.
Ta Chris and the diner Peppi's in Sliema. Some one also mentioned the kiosk at Font Ghadir.
The Luzzu in Qawra and Tal Famiglia in Marsalscala.
We had an excellent baguette at Eddie's in Valletta.
Please note that many of the restaurants mentioned can take their place in the Top Ten POPULAR restaurants in Malta - not in the Top Ten GOURMET ones.

I've had lovely meals at il-Veduta at Saqqajja Square in Rabat .. nice food and stunning view and if there are footie freaks out there you can actually see into the stadium from there too.
As Hat mentioned Luzzu in Qawra.. I've never been disappointed.
Venus at the back of Bugibba square
Overflow in Qawra ... still loving the Reef Steak and Baked Beef options.
One that has moved OFF of my list is il-Garra located at the White Dolphin complex Qawra. It's under new management and is extremely overpriced for an averagely made meal. ... many people have told them but they insist in plodding on. You will easily get a table here as it's a once tried never to return type place... In Lino's defence I think the rental of the place is not helping but sometimes you have to get butts on seats. It's a self catering complex and the reason people go to those is to cut down on expenditure. I'm not suggesting giving it away but it will need to be closer to the residents budgets as it was with the previous owner.
