(TGA) - Trying to find information on train travel from Venice to Northeast Hungary (Miskolc). Has anyone traveled from Italy to Hungary? Also, wondering if there are any train tours of Italy (ending in Venice) that are about 5 days in length (Rome to Venice). Thanks for any info!

The train travel throughout Italy is not a scenic Orient Express type of train. You can travel in a few hours to the main train stations (like Florence, Rome, Venice). I am not sure what airport is near Miskolc, if I knew the name of the major airport, I may be able to help you out a little better. You can take a budget airline for less than some train tickets and get there in a jiffy. Example: Wizzair can take you from Budapest to Venice in 1 hour and 20 minutes. There are also other budget airlines like Ryanair and Easyjet.
I am not sure what Italian city interests you most, but this may help you. Venice = no less than 3 full days (but more is better), Florence = no less than 3-4 days (of course more is better), and Rome takes min of 3 full exhausting days.
Hope that helps.

Here is a little more info on my proposed trip: I have been to Italy several times..this trip I am taking my daughter, her husband and two kids (ages 5 and 13)...she indicated that she would like to see some of Italy which would include Rome and Venice and I thought that with the train they could see some of the countryside also. Our ultimate destination is Miskolc which is the 3rd largest city in Hungary and where my recently deceased husband was from. From Miskolc I plan to take them via train to Budapest and then fly home from there. Trying to get some type of tour arranged so that I don't have to worry about the sightseeing/travel within Italy...then the final leg from Venice to Miskolc by train.
