(TGA) - Is it safe to travel from Romania via train to Moldova and are there any youth hostels in Moldova? Any suggestions for student travel?

Hi fellow volunteer!
Yes it's ok to take that famous train to Moldova :) I took it from Bucharest to Chisinau and it was an overnight trip lasting around 12 hours. At the borders, the train stops for aprox. 2 hours. But if you are in some nearer county like Moldova (I mean the Romanian Moldova, cities like Iasi, Suceava, Bacau...) you better take a coach or what it is called "Maxi Taxi" and your trip will be shorter, cheaper and less exhausting. (Just an idea: a trip by coach from Iasi to Chisinau takes 3 hours or less!)
About the youth hostels, I don't know much since I stayed at locals and I don't remember having seen any hostel there. In Chisinau, I know about the "Meridian" hotel which is located centrally and its prices are quite affordable (15$ for a single room) comparing to other hotels. There are also some agencies that offer accomodation in apartments, price depending on the facilities. Anaway, before deciding to go you can ask any travel agency here about accomodation and student travel in the Republic of Moldova (and you better say the word "republic" as they might be thinking you are talking about the Romanian Moldovan county-or just say: Moldavia!). Hopefully, they'll give you more info :)
