(TGA) - Destination Expert  

Just spent a week in Va Beach. Defiitely enjoy going during the off season. I planned this trip to be there for the air show which ended up being a bust. Weather just did not cooperate. Feel bad for all of those who put so much time and energy into planning it and all the performers who showed up and couldn't even get in the air. Ah, well...

Monday morning arose with sunshine and had great weather the rest of the week. Spent time walking the boardwalk, went across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel, over to Norfolk, to Fort Monroe and a day up at Yorktown/Jamestown/Williamsburg.

Loved being at the beach and seeing/hearing the planes practice out of Oeana. My only complaint was the huge numbers of people with dogs-- no, that's not my complaint, actually. I have no problems with dogs. Had huskies for 20 + years... but I DO have a problem with people allowing thier dogs to go to the bathroom ON the boardwalk and then not cleaning it up??? Seriously... tons of dogs and owners and very few carrying plastic bags with them.

One of the things I love about Va Beach is it's clean atmosphere. Very surprised at the dog waste left on the boardwalk-- several places-- not a single incident.

Anyways-- aside from the dog poop issues :) had a great time. Stayed at the Fairfield Inn and Suites. They do a nice job of keeping things up-- hard to do oceanside.

I've been to Va Beach 4 times now in Sept and Oct. Enjoy every time! :) Thanks for the hospitality-- those of you who live there.

Thanks for the excellent report -- too bad about the air show. And I totally agree about inconsiderate people who can't be bothered with a pooper scooper.

I have to say that it's one place that we always come back to. Unusual for us-- long road trips are our norm. Va Beach just has a "good" feel about it, in my opinion. Every person you meet is just nice. :) Sounds kind of hokey but I hope it never changes. It seems to maintain that "small town" feel despite it's huge influx of tourism. Of course... always going in the off season may help? Everyone is more relaxed? Either way-- it's a good place to spend a week.

i have never been to Va Beach, but sounds like a lot of fun! too bad for the unexpected weather though. maybe i'll give a thought in visiting there someday.

Did you find a good seafood buffet?? Would love to hear about other restaurants you might have enjoyed. We like to go down in the off-season and try new places.

Glad you had a good time, but so sorry about the poop! That's just not right!
