Since many travellers here are asking what is there to see in SC between Point A and Point B, I wanted to let all know that the fact-filled Depression Work Projects Administration 's "South Carolina - A Guide to the Palmetto State is now on-line at Google Books.
Complete with maps, this book documents historical places in South Carolina and is a terrific way to explore and note the less known historical places in the state. I have a hard copy that I keep in my car whenever traveling.
As a note of caution, the roads are as they existed in the 1930s. I found (to my amazement) that SC built a new highway after 1930 and named it with the same number as a 1930s road with a different route! But that was easily overcome by asking a local where I had gone wrong.
An updated version with current roads was republished by the Univ. of SC press in the late 1980s.
